December Updates: Public Sharing, New Network Metrics and a Richer Knowledge Base

We are excited to announce our latest release, dropping on December 8th - our last release for 2025.

This update brings a massive quality-of-life feature that has been highly requested, along with essential new metrics for deeper debugging and a comprehensive overhaul of our documentation.

Here is a summary of what's new.

🚀 Major Improvements

This release is packed with features designed to make analyzing, sharing, and understanding your WebRTC data easier and faster.

1. The Public Share Button

Analysis is often a collaborative effort. Until now, sharing an rtcStats dump required your colleague to have an account or for you to export and send the raw file. Not anymore!

We have introduced a Share button that solves this entirely. Any dump you upload to rtcStats can now be made publicly available with a simple click.

  • Public Link: Generating the link is instant
  • No Account Needed: The public link can be accessed by anyone, allowing you to show and share your data without requiring the recipient to log in
  • This is the fastest way to get feedback or include a specific dump analysis in a bug report

Just remember that this public link will be valid for the retention period of the shared record itself - and that depends on the tier your account is in.

2. Three Essential Network Observations

Debugging quality issues often comes down to network stability. To provide a clearer picture of stream health, we have added three crucial, high-level metrics across all streams:

  • Detect High Jitter: Identifies excessive variation in packet delay, a key indicator of audio and video quality degradation.
  • Detect High Round Trip Time (RTT): Flags high latency, essential for assessing the responsiveness of the call
  • Detect High Packets Lost: Alerts you to significant packet loss, where data fails to reach its destination

These metrics are now available for any streams Inbound and Outbound for both audio and video, offering immediate visibility into the state of your connection.

3. Knowledge Base (KB) Overhaul

We believe in making WebRTC data accessible, which starts with great documentation. We've spent significant time reviewing and expanding our Knowledge Base:

  • Tons of New Articles: Every statistic and observation that rtcStats processes is now documented and classified in our base. You can now understand exactly what each number represents
  • Improved Display and Navigation: We have also refreshed the page layout to display articles more clearly and improved the navigation to help you find the definition you need faster

✨ 🐛 Other Improvements

Finally, a few smaller updates that improve the overall experience:

Improved Chart Tooltips

We've increased the font size within the tooltips on our charts to make reading values easier. Additionally, values are now truncated after 3 digits most of the time to ease the reading, cleaning up the display of long decimal numbers

SEO Updates

The underlying structure of our blog and Knowledge Base articles has been updated to ensure they are better searchable on internet, making it easier for users to find the specific technical details they are looking for through search engines

🐛 Fixes

In our continued effort for data accuracy and consistency, we have resolved a key issue impacting file compatibility:

UserAgent Consistency

We fixed an issue with the userAgent representation when users upload rtcStats format files from Safari and Firefox. We now ensure an homogenous representation for these browsers, making the analysis consistent whether you are uploading an rtcStats dump or a native WebRTC internals dump.
