Following up on our last update where we focused on customer feedback, our team has been hard at work again. We're excited to announce another wave of improvements to rtcStats. This latest release is packed with new features and enhancements designed to give you even more granular insights into your WebRTC sessions, with a special focus on audio quality, connection analysis, and a more streamlined user experience.

🚀 Major Improvements

Advanced Audio Troubleshooting with New Observations

Audio issues can be notoriously tricky to debug. To help you pinpoint problems faster, we've added a host of new observations specifically targeting audio streams. These will help you identify common issues such as:

  • No incoming or outgoing audio volume
  • High speaker delay
  • Local bufferbloat
  • Microphone levels that are too high

We've also added specific observations for USB and Bluetooth devices, which can often be a source of audio problems if not configured correctly.

To make it easier to manage and analyze these insights, we've introduced a new, centralized observation component. This new view gathers all observations in one place, allowing you to quickly see the full picture and jump to the relevant data with a single click.

Deeper Dive into Connection Setup

Understanding the entire lifecycle of a connection is crucial for troubleshooting. We've enriched the connection setup view with a wealth of new information, including:

  • A detailed connection timeline
  • The number of disconnections
  • Connection churns and handovers

This will provide you with a clearer picture of connection stability and help you identify patterns in connectivity issues.

✨ Other Improvements

In addition to these new features, we've also made several improvements to existing functionality:

Contextualized Observations

We've made our stream observations even more insightful by calculating the percentage of time an observation occurs during a call. This helps you understand the severity of an issue – whether it's a momentary glitch or a persistent problem.

Revamped Logs

We've completely overhauled the logs section to improve performance and usability, especially for long calls with multiple peer connections. With peer selections, advanced log filters, and infinite-loading, you can now analyze even the most complex call scenarios without sacrificing user experience. You can also search and filter the entire log history, even if it's not all displayed on the screen.

🔧 Important Requirement

M138 as the baseline: To ensure you're always working with the most relevant data, we now prevent the upload of dump files older than M138.

We're confident that these new features and improvements will help you diagnose and resolve WebRTC issues more effectively. We're always eager to hear your feedback, so please don't hesitate to reach out and let us know what you think of the new release.
